When Chisel released its 1996 debut album 8 A.M. All Day, the band had settled into the D.C. scene but were far from settled in their ambitions. Ted Leo’s power trio took a mighty leap forward in songwriting, blending an organic affinity for sixties-to-seventies mod styles in with its post-punk indie roots. Recorded with Archie Moore of Velocity Girl, 8 A.M.’s 13 songs spring from the speakers with passionate nervy energy and zest for life. A youth explosion.
